  • THE 2008 50TH ANNUAL GRAMMY AWARDS ON DVD -
    The 50th Annual Grammy Awards took place at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California on February 10, 2008. This year's big winner was Amy Winehouse who due to visa complications televised her performance from England. A vibrant, and exuberant Amy Winehouse dominated the Grammy Awards on Sunday night. She won five awards. Rapper Kanye West came in right behind her with four trophies.

    Alicia Keys was the evening's opening musician, singing and playing piano alongside archived video and audio of Frank Sinatra.

    Kanye West, who had a leading eight nominations and won four trophies, delivered an electric, glow-in-the-dark rendition of "Stronger". Then he segued into a stirring tribute to his mother, Donda West, who died unexpectedly last year at 58. West won four Grammys, putting him in second place behind Winehouse.

    In another memorable number, Beyonce and Tina Turner belted out "Rolling on the River". Turner, a sprightly 68, and the 26- year-old Beyonce got the crowd up on its feet with the hip-shaking song.

    Former Beatle Ringo Starr and former Eurythmics' leadman, Dave Stewart, presented the "Best Country Album of the Year" award to Vince Gill.

    Other winners are Alicia Keys, who now has nearly a dozen Grammys to her name. She won as Best Female R&B Performer. Rihanna won the Best Rap/Sung Collaboration for her song "Umbrella" featuring Jay-Z.

    Other collaborative performances linking contemporary and past musicians included Beyoncé with Tina Turner, Rihanna with The Time, classical pianist Lang Lang with jazz pianist Herbie Hancock, and inaugural Grammy winner Keely Smith with Kid Rock. Special recognition of the musical contributions of The Beatles was also featured.
